Tell us how you came to join Plankbridge in 2011…
I’d just turned 18 when I joined Plankbridge as an apprentice, completing a level 3 Diploma NVQ in Carpentry at Weymouth College. Having started as an apprentice I shadowed some of our senior hutmakers and learned everything from the benefits of keeping a tidy bench to working to deadlines, and interacting with team members.
Today I not only craft shepherd’s huts and maintain the build method that I’ve refined over many years together with our Head of Production Nicola, but I keep an eye on the progress of all the huts through the workshop.
Favourite shepherd’s huts to work on?
Most of our huts are clad in iconic corrugated tin which I love but I really enjoyed working on a Custom hut recently that had black rebated featheredge cladding, a traditional weatherboard which is often seen on barns and is increasingly popular with new properties.
What do you like most about working at Plankbridge?
The nice atmosphere and working with the team.
What makes for a good weekend?
If the weather is sunny a walk in Wareham Forest; if it’s rainy, getting my guitar out.
Favourite place to eat out in Dorset?
The 7bone Burger Co. in Bournemouth – the American burgers are enormous!
