We asked Plankbridge customer Rachel Smith to describe what it’s like sleeping in a shepherd’s hut. Here’s what she said, “We love lighting the wood burner & watching the dancing flames & falling asleep to the sound of the wind in the trees or the soft sound of the rain on the tin roof. It feels safe & comforting.” Studies have shown that consistency in your bedtime routine is key to lowering your risk of disease and high blood sugar. So, drifting off to sleep in a gentle and stress-free way like Rachel describes is definitely a good thing.

Care in our craft
We delivered Rachel’s Snug shepherd’s hut in Spring 2013, so almost exactly 10 years ago. She explains why she chose Plankbridge. “We were looking for artisan craftsmanship, quality & tradition. Plankbridge had it all. Richard “got” what we wanted & the Plankbridge team were a pleasure to deal with. They listened, made suggestions & produced our dream in hut form.” It’s always lovely to hear such positive feedback from our customers. The skilled team of Plankbridge hut-makers and designers take a lot of pride in their work and there’s a magic in making people’s dreams come true.
Creating a successful business at the bottom of your garden
Rachel has set up a successful Bed & Breakfast business with her shepherd’s hut, affectionately known as ‘the little green hut’ or The Hut Eyam. The hut sits at the bottom of her lovely garden overlooking the picturesque village of Eyam in the Peak District. But does she ever get to spend a night in there herself? “Yes! When we can, but we are very busy with our shepherd’s hut B&B guests, so not as often as we’d like to. Family & friends like to use it when they visit too.”
Waking up to the sound of birdsong
“We always have the best night’s sleep – waking to the bird song is so peaceful & a lovely slow start to the day. Having the first cup of tea & breakfast in bed is a real treat, there’s no rush…” We can’t think of a dreamier way to wake up and the perfect break from all that our modern lives can throw at us.
