The dogs of Plankbridge

Dogs have always been an integral part of life at Plankbridge. Step into our Dorset workshop, and before you’ve even taken in the scent of freshly cut timber and the quiet hum of craftsmanship, you’ll be greeted by a welcoming committee of waggy tails. They are part of the team – offering a warm welcome to visitors, making sure we never miss a lunchtime walk in the fields, and generally bringing a joyful energy to the workshop.

They are also our inspiration. Over the years, we have found countless ways to design huts that embrace life with dogs, from special ramps for little legs and customised low-level windows to help them enjoy the view. Our Dog Wash hut was born from our own experiences – after all, when you’ve got miles of open countryside on your doorstep, keeping them clean is all part ofthe daily ritual. Now, as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are taking our commitment to dog-friendly design even further, unveiling a luxurious dog-friendly Guest House at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May, with a pull-out under-bed dog bed, Shaker pegs for leads and shelves for treat tins.

None of this would be possible, of course, without the Plankbridge dog team – our daily companions and unofficial product testers. At the heart of it all are Richard and Jane’s dogs: the border terrier cross, Shrimp, famous in the workshop for his beautiful knitted mustard-yellow jumper, and gentle yellow Lab, Dipper – both of whom have been part of Plankbridge since they were puppies.

They are joined by a cast of equally lovely canine colleagues, some of whom work from home! Head of Creative Hannah’s friendly chocolate cockapoo Bramble, a natural in front of the camera, who has graced the pages of many a garden magazine; MD Andrew’s spaniels Roo and Jazz, accomplished Canicross runners; and Operation Manager Nicola’s spaniels Pluto and Luna, seasoned countryside explorers.

And then there’s Project Lead Kate’s Spanish waterdog, Ted; Head of PR Claire’s miniature schnauzer, Badger; Technical Designer Alasdair’s lurchers, Isla and Skye; and Financial Controller Damian’s Romanian rescue dog, Lando. Meanwhile, Gilbert the Airedale, who lives in the Peak District with Rachel from our Business Development Team, represents our North of England canine team. Each of them has played their part in shaping the way we think about our huts, reminding us that a well-designed space should feel like home to everyone – paws and all.

This May, you’ll find us at a new location in Ranelagh Gardens at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, just opposite our previous stand (Site number RA643). Whether you’re a dog lover, hut enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates handcrafted spaces, we’d love to show you our dog-friendly Guest House and let you experience it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed!
