The RHS Bothy is a completely new design, for use as a home office, garden studio, hobby / music room and gardener’s retreat. We have taken inspiration from the evocative atmosphere of Victorian gardener’s bothies, and design cues from diverse but interlinking sources, from the shepherd’s hut and the living van through to Danny the Champion of the World’s caravan and farm hay wagons. There are a few hints of founder Richard’s 1920’s Bournemouth tram office and even a nod to timber built 1930’s Norfolk Broads cruisers. It is a blending of design and craft that really sings.
The waisted sides root the profile into the landscape, rather than sitting upon it. A visual trick that makes the RHS Bothy a perfect outdoor space option to incorporate into a garden design or landscaping project.

The first model out of the workshop is fitted with a desk in English ash, modelled on a traditional potting bench detailed with lazer engraved sketches from Gertrude Jekyll’s personal notebooks. Complete with an oak stable door, single and double oak window. 240v electrics and an electric radiator make for a beautiful, comfortable and refreshing environment to spend time in, to work and play. This hut took pride of place in the centre of Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in a ‘Women in Horticulture’ feature. It can now be found on display for all to see beyond the World Food Garden near the Hilltop laboratory building at RHS Garden Wisley.

14′ x 6’6″ (7’1” at its widest point) / 81 sq ft. of floor space. Also available as 12′ or 16′ long.
The RHS Bothy is uniquely built from UK grown timber, from the larch framework, insulated with Thermafleece sheeps’ wool, to the solid English ash floor and internal wall lining of random width sweet chestnut. The windows and door joinery is all made using naturally durable, seasoned sweet chestnut. The boards are nailed with hand-dressed iron rose-head nails. The detailing has been described as breath-taking, and it certainly has a magic, handcrafted quality.
You too could enjoy the superb acoustics and year round comfort that this hut offers. The RHS Bothy as shown is 14’ long, full of potential, and available in any colour externally. Internally it is offered lined in natural random width English ash or sweet chestnut boards (or painted boards if required).
